Just when Joan was getting her realationship act together, Aaron gets called to serve with his National Guard unit in Iraq. This was one of the more dramatic episodes that had Joan driving Aaron south of the boarder to a safe house to escape his call to duty (which Aaron of course declined).
So many messages about disproptionate Black men serving in a war that has no real end in sight. And a deeper message about love and loss-particularly when having worked on your own relationship baggage. When episode 7 rounded up- I just knew that Aaron was the prize for all the frogs she kissed and for some of her own personal evolution.
Blackvoices already reported a couple of weeks ago that Richard T. Jones (Aaron) was leaving the show. And the military exit was likely his way out.
So for now Joan morns love lost—but at least she looks hella fabulous in the process. That brown dress ensemble at Aaron’s going away party was really pretty.
