Steve Harvey & Serendipity

Two ways I start my morning out EVERY morning and that’s Starbucks and Steve (his radio show on 96.3-WHUR). Alot of bloggers seem to have weighed in on his divorce and the “con job” specifics. I still maintain that things don’t quite add up -including the fact that Mary and Steve Harvey talk about her managing all the finances in 1998’s Ebony. However you wash it, it really ain’t nobody’s damn business. And it certainly doesn’t change the way I feel about him.

I adore his closing remarks. For some strange reason I always feel like he’s either underscoring what I already know or sending me a direct message. I know, how selfish of me. But today, I was coming back from Starbucks and his closing remarks were about resolutions. Resolving to do SOMETHING. That message was for my Mama for sure. I have never been short on somethings. But there are a few somethings that keep haunting me. And then in the strangest twist of fate, my coffee was wrong. I don’t play about espresso.

I put the key back in the ignition to go back and get it remade across the street (I’m lazy and could have walked). And Steve goes over his 9:55 time and talks about negative self talk. And continues. In the Starbucks parking lot I see the prettiest 35 seat-er limo bus EVER. I get out and ask the driver what it looks like inside. He asks if I want to look at it. And he calls the owner.

SERENDIPITY. For many many years I have been fascinated with Georgetown (DC). Not just the wealth and what it is today. But the little known Black History. The Black store owners, the first black president of Georgetown U, Margaret and Roumania Peters (Georgetown residents) who were the Venus and Serena of the 1930s-and the way in which some of the residents were bullied out of their homes-which made way for the 2million dollar estates. I have a black professionals group that’s been slightly inactive do to my daily dramas. But its about to be on and poppin.

The book that inspired the champagne evening bus tour. Thanks Steve.
