Maybe one of the reasons I never liked calling men anybody, is because at last count I have six telephone numbers attached to 5 devices. One for work and testing (company branded mobile), one because it was the first telephone number I ever had as an adult (Sprint), one for personal/business (iphone-ATT), one POTs line in case I’m dying in my house and the other phones fail at e911 phase 2 location based routing (ma bell will always know where I am), Skype because it was cute a year ago, and now drum roll…….Magic Jack.
This plug and play (phone jack) USB device is the best thing since sliced bread. Sound quality has been my major beef with VOIP (voice over IP) like products. Skype sounds like you’re in a subbasement bathroom. Even some mobile devices that are now doing IP based signaling (not just the voice-SIP&MIP-keep your underwear on SBM!!!) which include most of the above carriers (ATT, Sprint etc) have some issues to overcome with audio and routing.
I love this thing. I even tested it on a cordless device-so now we are introducing duplex frequency (similiar family to what many mobile phones are doing today.) And the quaility is better than skype or vonage. This thing has all the bells and whistles: caller id, voicemail, call fowarding, your own telephone number, 911 basic support per FCC mandate.
Of course the project engineer in me wants to run a full regression test plan on it. Also not sure if directory assistance has been incorporated (which is where most mobile/fixed phone companys make money) (UPDATE: DACC (directory assistance call completion) works hot damn compliments of free411. Its voice activated and free, but you do have to listen to one product sponsor sales pitch) But thats for another more relaxed A.D.D. day. Future bells should be Porting, three way, and conference calling (3+ callers), and mp3 recording (though I know this gets hairy on the legal side).
For the budget minded Comeback Kids. Its 39.95 one time fee for the jack and 20 bucks a year. Excellent if you do tons of international calls too.

NO I DO NOT. I like it that much. I don’t have any affliate marketing relationships whatsoever with any of the products I like.

I agree with Permalink.
Just ordered one for daughter after many great months of use between Argentina and USA with both with Local USA numbers. Wife has used hers to call within BA 5 miles away in BA argentina paying MJ 2 cents/min for call, because more reliable than using Argintina phone. Also, at 2 cents/min it is less costly than calling long distance within Argentina. Rarly a problem, rarely a break in service (usually net problem) usually very clear. Viva MJ.
