1:51 AM EDT ***I’m coming to you from a super semi fabulous hotel locale where I’ll spend the next couple of days with my comeback peeps and watching Obama garner 338 electorial votes for that decisive victory James Carville and I predicted the day before yesterday. I’m super nice right now on my third appletini, so if this post doesn’t come out quite right (then the world has ended, because I drop knowledge sober and appletini’d), please forgive me.
Humble “Brother Hummy” ( “W” movie reference # 25) made a comment about 30 minutes ago. One in which I find a little very provocative and rather deep. He referenced the Obama victory as being bittersweet. I asked him to elaborate with my infamous “???”. Humble replied:
“…I am so scared that this will short change the descendants of slaves. Let’s be honest he got elected by not having too much black baggage.”
This also got me thinking post slavery about the old black civil right’s guards, living and kicking today in congress or retirement: John Lewis, Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson etc. I remember that there was a little contention early on about them learning that he was running like we all did, on television. I was never sure if there was a black protocol detailed in some handbook somewhere on how to announce to your congressional and/or civil right’s elders your intention to run for the highest office in the land.
It also got me thinking about our expectations for this human yet GREAT man, President-Elect Barack Obama. And getting back to Humble’s comment, the things we do sometimes to minimize our blackness and/or our otherness for common good or an intended outcome. Further, it got me thinking about being different. Taking unexpected routes that anger and frustrate others, but symbolize true leadership and willingness to enact change.
I have heard Jackson speak before about the bus boycotts and having to travel longer routes to restrooms in black churches as he and King were mobilizing black folks in the south, because stopping randomly at white establishments would get a sure fire “no” or much worse.
And while I didn’t feel warm and fuzzy about the “castration” comments Jackson made regarding Obama, I can’t help but to still feel a certain amount of respect yet disappointment in him. I saw Jesse marvel with tears in his eyes tonight at Obama who did what he couldn’t do twice (run and successfully win in 1984 and 1988.)
This totally intrigues me.
Is failure the punishment for being too “black, too loud, and too proud”? What say the treehouse now..
(UPDATE: 7:50AM EST..BTW…did Jolie just cuss me out in the comment section. I still love you Jolster? NOTE: I adore our President-Elect and called this race the day before yesterday. But we as black people should still be thinking critically at how success is or isn’t made. There are times where I am not at my all time “blackest” and it has very little to do with my lineage and how my folks got here. Humble might be asking the question literally. I am asking figurately as it relates to Jackson and his soured legacy).

Hmmmm….. This is an excellent post even after your 3 appletinis. But I think it goes back to one possessing the law of buy in. In Barack’s case he was able to get people to buy into his belief that he can be a succesful President. Some leaders possess this quality and unfortunately a lot of people don’t including Jesse, Al, and John McCain.
But I do believe eventually that someone who may even carry black baggage can actually be president. I just think that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton aren’t good examples because they haven’t always walked the straight & narrow path…(ummm Jackson’s illegimate child)
But let me ponder in my sleep over some other politicians other than Jesse and Al and I’ll get back to you on is failure the punishment for being too black, too loud, or too proud.

@humble… Damn you!!! You have me thinking something serious……. But I’m really going to research this because this is interesting. For example, Colin Powell is another prominent African American who we could say that doesn’t have that “black baggage” who a lot of people respect. But then I think about ummm Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and I immediately think of baggage……. But off top I think that some of this baggage comes from lifestyle choices that these individuals have made……
But here’s what I’m going to do… Since we mentioned Shirely Chisolm the other day. I’m going to research her considering she was the first African American woman elected to Congress and the first black to run for president. Her story is interesting because not only was she representing blacks but she was also representing women. Even though her not winning the primary election is a huge accomplishment it still can be considered a failure because she didn’t win. I’m just curious to know some of the obstacles that she had to endure during her primaries and whether her decision to run for president was even accepted. I just don’t think she could have been perceived as being too black or too proud if she was fighting for womens equality too…. Could one of Jesse’s downfalls be that we only hear or see Jesse during widely publicized black issues??? If so, then I wonder if we can say that failure is the punishment when you decide to primarily focus on only black issues which results in one seeming too black and too proud?????
*****Another thought to ponder…. I was having a discussion with a friend regarding the outcome of the election and she stated that her mother said unfortunately she doesn’t feel as though Barack Obama is her first African American President. She proceeded to say that her mother said if his momma is white then he is white….. I was appalled at first and then I was just like okay whatever people are entitled to their opinion. I said my piece but I can see how this also plays somewhat into what Humble was saying… It’s like we’re almost there but not quite….. Because I can see how if his mom was black then he possibly could have automatically had some “black baggage” and if this was the case would he have been accepted any differently?????
@ Comeback…. Sorry I’ve been writing books…I’m analyzing this stuff way toooo much!!!

Ooo y’all should be ashamed of yourselves for this topic. We with the “one drop” thoery all have black baggage. Obamas parents marriage was not legal in 16 states when they married. His life was not easy and even if it was in a sense he carried is blackness (his skin) everywhere he went and was met with adversity. I would not discount his success. I would say that he focused on what AMERICA needs not just BLACK america and isn’t that what we have been askin for..equality? Isn’t that what you ask for at work? Life? For you to be looked at as a person first not an african american and then a person..ughhhh!!!!

Good morning fam,
When I went to the store around 5 a.m. to get the paper, it was a crowd (if I would have gotten to the store 15 minutes later, all the papers would have been gone). The conversations had in line just made me feel so good inside–you could feel the sense of pride everyone had.
Reference Jesse Jackson, I just heard him on the Steve Harvey Morning Show. His tears were the same as ours because he thought about all that came before us–about the fight for justice and how many people died fighting for equality.
I’m still basking in the speech that our first African American president gave. Y’all when they played Aaron Neville’s rendition of God Bless America on Tom Joyner this morning I cried.
Stop by my blog as I add songs to the Obama Presidential party mix. If you know a song I can add, just leave it here, because today is all about the positive: http://www.sheliagoss.com/blog

“I would say that he focused on what AMERICA needs not just BLACK america and isn’t that what we have been askin for..equality? Isn’t that what you ask for at work? Life?”
I agree but in theory. But the problem in our society is that equality is usually not on equal terms. The weaker your black american accent the more equal you are. If your name is Tiffany instead of Tamika the more equal you are. The more that you think slavery, and colonialism are things of the past the more equal you are. It seems that sometimes equality is at the expense of the history of the struggle of native americans, africans, and other people of color. What I am basically saying is that the issues and pain of the past we have to live with everyday. The winner’s of that past don’t want and don’t feel they should have to acknowledge it. A black man from the projects or a mexican from east L.A. should be accepted by the whole of america the same way Barack was. But we know that even if they had the same qualifications as Barack they would not win.

“For example, Colin Powell is another prominent African American who we could say that doesn’t have that “black baggage” who a lot of people respect. But then I think about ummm Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and I immediately think of baggage”
Colin Powell and and in an extreme case Clarence Thomas have tried to separate themselves from black people as much as possible. They were rewarded with their positions. These 2 cases back up my point.

Humble I disagree. Barack won not because of his “whiteness” but because of his transcendance. And Tyrone from the projects who speaks in broken English should NOT win. His name was not John Smith but Barack Hussein Obama. So the name game we can’t even play.
He is an EXTRAORDINARY man. He has been coined the most extraordinary student to ever grace the halls of Harvard Law. The man won because he is the most qualified. The IRS as well as America still deems him Black. And as hard core as I am about our history and the struggle and pain of ancestors, we have to learn to let it go.
Let it go man…this a great day. We don’t have to forget our history in order to move past it. It’s time for something new…we are not getting those 40 acres and the mule is not even an option.
I’m with Jolie on this…i’m actually appauled at this discussion. WE are the reason we can’t get ahead…not everything is a conspiracy…sometimes it is just what it is.

@Teacia
“Barack won not because of his “whiteness” but because of his transcendance.”
I agree. But where do you get whiteness from? I never mentioned anything about whiteness.
“And Tyrone from the projects who speaks in broken English should NOT win.”
I agree. I didnt say he should.
“And as hard core as I am about our history and the struggle and pain of ancestors, we have to learn to let it go.

What you are not getting is that people cannot pick and choose what they want to accept about you. Either you accept all of us or nothing. Although it is shameful, painful, etc. it has to be faced by everyone so we can move on. They did it in South Africa. As long as you want to sweep it under the rug and continue on tas if the past has no bearing on today then this country is living a big lie.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:00 am
Disclaimer: I am happy that Barack got elected. This is a great moment in history and for our people.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:07 am
I have been crying all morning. I just found out this morning, (yaw know I was sleep last night!)
Jesse set off my tears… whether Obama is 1/8 black, 1/4 or 1/2 black, it’s the most black we’ve ever had.
I think Jesse’s failure and Barack’s success has more to do with differences in approach and personalities.
I came today for my morning meeting with my boss…. I updated him and he said is there anything else? I said no. He said well, I think today needs to be a holiday… Me and you are taking the day off. I sat there, SHOCKED! He said, I’m serious… something phenomenal happend and we need to go. Yaw, I am home!!!!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:07 am
@ All
Don’t get me wrong I was happy last night and I am still on cloud 9 this morning for Obama’s victory. I am sooo happy that my president is Black!!!!!
But I just think Humble brings up a good point. Hell, ever day when I step on the job at 8:00 a.m. I have to start playing the “role”. And when I get off at 4:30 then I turn it off. I’m not saying that this is right and that this is the way that it should be but this is what society has taught us that we must do in order to succeed.
BTW….I think that this is a great discussion. Nobody is taking anything away from Barack’s victory I just think it’s interesting for everybody to be openminded and at least think about the conversation and give their piece.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:08 am
Humble it’s exactly what you said…please reread your comments. I don’t think there’s anything for us to face. We have been facing our reality every day of our lives and finally our reality has changed.
Barack is a black man, he won the presidency of our nation. People still didn’t vote for him b/c he’s Black. If he was a white man with the same qualifications this would have been a blowout of mass proportions and the last 10 months of this campaign would not have gotten as racially ugly as it had.
Today is a good day for Black people, for all people. Let it go.

The same thing I have to do. If things are so equal and everything is in the past why do we have to do this? Do white people have to do this? If they do then I stand corrected.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:15 am
@Teacia
“I don’t think there’s anything for us to face. We have been facing our reality every day of our lives and finally our reality has changed.”
I never said anything about having to face anything. As far as economic opportunity the sky is the limit for black people in this country. But as far as social acceptance or equality? It is up in the air if we are equal.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:19 am
Humble in our country if you have one drop of black blood in your system–you are seen as Black–so trust me when I say, Pres. Obama, has gone through some things and has some baggage just because he’s a Black man. I have baggage but my baggage isn’t the same as a Black man my same age; nor is it the same as my mom’s or grandmother’s because they grew up in a different time…but beyond a shadow of a doubt it does not in no way—for or fashion — short change descendants of slaves—it closes a gap–it inspires—if gives us hope–it shows us that in this country—yes, a Black man can and not only can he–he did it–and that’s because of the sweat and blood of so many that came before us. (Sorry comeback for the long speech).
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:20 am
Before I read the comments. I really did think about how this post might be received..appletini or not. This post actually leads in to my next post.
Jesse Jackson is like the fly in the ointment he represents something that black people either don’t like to talk about right now OR openly hate.
But Obama did something that really EXPLORES the blueprint of success..tomorrow’s post.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:28 am
@ Nicki……. And that’s big considering where we are…. Enjoy your day off
I’ve been at work now for over a half an hour and ummmm I haven’t even seen anybody that looks like me so we at can least smile and acknowledge the history that was made last night…
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:30 am
@80’s: Thanks girl!!!! I have a long way too and from my car and smiled at EVERYONE I see.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:31 am
@Comeback
“But Obama did something that really EXPLORES the blueprint of success..tomorrow’s post.”
This is part of the issue I am addressing. IMHO the end does not always justify the means.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:32 am
Sorry to interrupt the subject guys, I have a quick question whenver you get a chance to answer.
Have any of you ever did any of those events where you go and listen to a seminar and then get a discount on a vacation or a resort?
Tune in to your reguarly scheduled programming. (workcite: SOMEBODY!)
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:37 am
wow…i tried to blog….the post is minimal I am speechless today….
Brother Jesse, I feel you…I forgot I had tear ducts lol.
Forget all the social aspects and ramifcations and celebrate the fact that we have a president. A competent president. A president that has galvanized a movement. And a president that happens to be black. Let’s just celebrate….
Sinceriously,
why so.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:48 am
@Humble: again, yes you did.
“Either you accept all of us or nothing. Although it is shameful, painful, etc. it has to be faced by everyone so we can move on.”
Here’s the reality if we must face it, this is a white country. WHITE men founded this country on the backs of Indians and Blacks…that’s the reality. White men created the study of all cultures aka Anthropology. We were orginally grouped by our skin color and cultures in comparison to THEM. They are the norm…now don’t get me wrong, I completely DISAGREE with this notion, but I am a self-proclaimed realist.
In order to get ahead and break down the barries that separate us we MUST play by their game, beat them at it and then change the rules. It’s how you change anything, you have to do it from within and to get in the circle you have to play by the rules. That is what makes Barack so extraordinary. He understood this reality, he went to their schools, got their ivy league education and then ran this election by playing their game better than them. And now that he has the power to change the process he can.
Btw, even we as blacks don’t accept all of us…so how can we expect anyone else too.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:52 am
When the question was posed “Is failure the punishment for being too “black, too loud, and too proud”?
I’m looking at this like if Jeff Johnson (political analyst from BET) had the same credentials and message as Barack Obama. How would he have been perceived? Considering he has dreds and is brownskinned? Even if his resume was the exact same as Barack’s and if he had Obama’s charisma. Would he have been given a chance or would he have immediately failed due to people looking at him as if he were too black due to the dreds?
**Side note*** I guess I’m just confused because one of the reasons why I come to the treehouse is to get everyone’s point of view on a variety of subjects. So I don’t understand why we should be appalled for having this conversation. It sure has me curious and thinking. Maybe it’s just me though…
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:56 am
“Btw, even we as blacks don’t accept all of us…so how can we expect anyone else too”
truer words have never been spoken
“Have any of you ever did any of those events where you go and listen to a seminar and then get a discount on a vacation or a resort?”
No but just don’t buy anything no matter what they say.
I am finally here live from my best friends basement (worksite daisy) and I am sooo sleepy. My city got down with the get down downtown and it was a total blast even tho they shut us down at 2am ole mutha sucka’s!!
It was so nice to see a celebration, the whites,blacks, mexicans (didn’t see no asians) but not the less we came together, the point is about making a change which is what we ALL need no matter what race. I think the way has been paved for others to follow in Obama’s footsteps my prayer is that A great example will be left and he can pass the torch to another.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 8:57 am
80’s he would have been too Black…period. In order to govern a nation of mixed diversities you can’t seem too much of anything these days. And yes this applies even to whites…especially in a time when the minority is rapidly becoming the majority.
80’s as you pointed out you come here to get everyone’s point of view…even if their view is showing appaulment for the subject. This is a good day and in my opinion it’s sad that we can’t even bask in the glow of our success for even a moment w/o questioning its merit.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:00 am
Great post but I disagree with some things. He didn’t get elected because of a lack of baggage. Look at his numbers from yesteredy, that was a land slide. We won cause he was the better Presidential hopefull
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:02 am
“This is a good day and in my opinion it’s sad that we can’t even bask in the glow of our success for even a moment w/o questioning its merit.”
This is how I’m feeling.. T, I’m feeling everything you have said today.
Thanks for answer my question Mik.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:06 am
Man I dunno If imma make it to work!!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:17 am
Yeah Mikki I took the day off!
Flipping the script up in here real quick:
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! Our PRESIDENT is BLACK!
Do yall understand the magnitude of that reality.
And moreover, Florida went Blue….BLUE! So now my hopes and dreams of becoming governor are that much closer to being a reality.
It is a GREAT day in this country…a GREAT day, and the birth of a new reality is all around us.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:19 am
This is a good day and in my opinion it’s sad that we can’t even bask in the glow of our success for even a moment w/o questioning its merit.
@ Teacia… I’m estatic about our 44th President being Barack Obama…. Like I said earlier I think Barack was able to get people to buy into his belief of his ability to be a great president.
But why is it sad to ponder over how to get our next black president as well? We have Barack now and hopefully for the next 8 years. But how do we get our next one??? What can we do as a race to get rid of the “too proud or too black stereotypes” to allow every African American who wants to run for President to have a fair chance?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:22 am
Teacia good for you, I am suppose to go at noon but in the words of my friend who didn’t vote yesterday for some stupid as hell reasons “F it!!!”
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:23 am
80’s the beauty about his win is that it is very possible that we won’t have to do a thing…that this nation will begin to judge people based on the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
We have a new President, and he happens to be Black…let’s hope this catches on!!!
A great day indeed folks.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:26 am
Can someone summons Heroes and Whyso? I want to know if he was downtown last night.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:30 am
We just have to pray that Barack has a succesful FULL term.. And that GOD places his protective arms around he and his family. The mold has been broken. Nothing is limiting us.. .Barack is a great man. He was able to win over others and he and his family are representing us WELL. All we have to do to get another in there is be GREAT. The hard part has been done.
I’m not trying get deep right now, I’m just basking in the glory. This is a HUGE step for our people. PERIOD. His skin is like ours, his hair is like ours… yes, he has some white in him but SO WHAT… we’ve never had anyone that look anything like us in this position.
All of our people that came before us, not too long ago, Jesse Jackson, my grandma, uncles, etc. were able to see this in their lifetimes. Some of our people died for this. [as I tear up again! LOL]
Anyway, this is all I’m gonna say for the moment.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:30 am
Oh yes and Nicki kat williams is OUT of the running!!
I was on the phone with him last night asking him what was he gonna be at the church partying it up for celebration. he said what church got to do with this? church and state don’t mix so no
*blank stare*
wtf you mean who gives a rat ass this is a celebration all I assumed was that you would want to be in the company of like minded folks instead of a bar or club screaming it out but no he gonna go and say that to me, he gets the X !!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:31 am
correction “Where he was gonna be”
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:32 am
I am in disbelief, job, ecstasy…every emotion that one could feel on this great and most auspicious occasion where in such a short amount of time a Black man will sit in the Oval Office, a Black woman will be first lady and the First family has two little black girls who genuinely held hands with little white girls like it didn’t mean a damned thing.
Martin’s dream is partially fulfilled as black people must learn to be open and joyous toward all…what better day can we ask for?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 9:33 am
@Mik: Church and state don’t mix???? what an ass. Sure that is what government wants us to believe but that doesn’t mean follow it.
He kinda sucks for that girl. LOL
I know my church is going to pep rally it up on Sunday… heck the Sunday before last, we were singing “Lift every voice and sing!”

I saw my great uncle there at the bar to which was way cool. Then we headed down town and it was a rap from there Everybody was out in the streets screaming with signs someone was running around with a super life size obama cut out which was funny, it was a blast my girl was in the sunroof waving and pointing at folks like she was pres, it was like a mini parade down town until like 2am it was around campus marcus and woodward, just driving around the circle screaming and hollering and giving people we didn’t know daps and fist and hugs!!

@ All…..
I apologize if I was coming off as Debbie the Downer that was not my intent but this post definitely had me thinking from all possible aspects…. So I am officially “backing away” from the topic at hand.
@ Nik…my coworker did that and ended up investing in a time share…. So as long as you don’t allow yourself to get sucked in I say go for it.

@80’s
oh please girl…like it’s always said: one monkey don’t stop no show…if you wanna discuss…that’s what this place is for…eff the finger waggers and their wagging fingers (and i can be one of them too, so eff me when i’m waggin’).
I think Barak had black baggage…he’s gonna be talked about regardless if we do it here or in our homes, with our families, or friends. I personally am not one to get all political and international, I’d rather talk about football butts and how tight was Barak’s hairline, Michelle’s dress and what not. if u wanna discuss, spill it girl.

And thanks for answering my question! I’ll let my friend know.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:20 am
Thanks Comeback…yeah life has been doing the most lately. It was going to take a Black President to make me take a break and bring me back to the blog world.
I’m off to shop for new mattresses and bedroom sets. My settlement offer came in yesterday and let’s just say that I’m happy that my tax bracket change for this year won’t be affected by our new President.
See yall on the Flip Side…oh and Bush is about to have a press conference regarding the new President. Btw, not only did Barack’s speech move me but also did John McCain’s…if he had been that kind of man during the race we would have had a tougher fight on our hands.
Later folks
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:21 am
Cuzzo, the workout and I watched my calories and fat intake…but I did not follow their starvation diet.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:32 am

@humble: Cheer the fugg up and go get laid. SERIOUSLY… your bringing down my high. Enjoy the fact that A MAN who believes in the people and who is a great orator has become president. I dont care if he is black thats an added bonus. I have lived a life of privledge but I still have BLACK BAGGAGE.. why .. umm cause I carry my skin around with me every single day. I am judged because of it every single day etc. please dont ruin this great day of everyone actually smiling and saying hello with the negativity and analytical commentary. (TONE: LOVING)
i still love you hummy but your bringing me down! SO STOP IT !
oh and HELLO FELLOW AMERICANS!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:47 am
in the midst of Obamas victory…why try to cloud it with such a negative view…we dont want white folk to look at our colour, yet we cant even get past our damn colour. to hell with whether Obama carried black baggage…to hell with it i say!!! close ur eyes, listen to his words, picture the lyfe he has lead and the changes he wants us all to experience…why does any of that have to be associated with a colour. He was by far the best candidate…he offered CHANGE from the mess that the bush admin caused…we heard, we listened and we voted, now let THE MAN, not the black man, but THE MAN do what we have trusted him to do.
@ Nic…im so jealous…have ur boss call mine…thanx!!!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:48 am

@Nicki
*hugs* now u can catch up on daytime TV.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:52 am
I agree with Jolie. I carry black baggage around from the top of my nappy ass hair to the bottom of my black feet. I carry those four little girls who were blown up in my home town. I carry the people who had dogs released and fire hoses on them 10 min from my house. I carry grandfathers who couldn’t go in the front door. I carry a mother and father who remember what civil rights truly mean. I carry MLKs dream every day of my life when some one looks at me and sees black compared to their white at this great PWI that pays students more than the people who clean. I carry baggage when I remember that I am a whole person who is the great great granddaughter who was whole but counted as 3/5. For the first time in a long time We the people includes us even more fully than before. 388 years of carrying things on our backs and now we are at the top baggage and all. Barack carries the same baggage we do. His little girls have to understand the racism their mother did but forty years later and their father seeks to change that.
SO they killed the dreamer but his dream lived and on November 4, 2008 I am proud to say I saw the vision become a reality.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:53 am
Good morning gals.
Hugs to Cuzzo… hey doll.. I sent you an email yesterday… you should be all good with the blog postings now. If not, please let me know.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:32 am
I think my point has been missed. I will just enjoy this moment and realize that I am now a man not a black man and everyone sees me that way.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:35 am
Humble, I think your point may be understood or discussed better tomorrow. But we, or maybe just I, want to be happy and live in this victorious, beautiful moment, right now.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:40 am
“Ya’ll so I am planning to head to DC for the Inauguration wknd!!
”
we should all get together.. Maybe some toof fairy in the sky can get us a table at the inaug dinner…
“YES WE CAN”
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:42 am

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:43 am
OMG Comeback that would be so cool since we basically went through the process together…
*fits of laughter and excitement*
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:46 am
i don’t know if I FULLY agree with Brother Hummy but I appreciate and respect his comments. I been happy since I called this victory. Now I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. Like Cuzzo said this is ONE man and like Im saying with a BIG inbox.
Im happy for our country because he ran a very impressive race. He raised money in unheard of and smart ways. He was inventive about who he reached out to..God..just think how that mind will affect how money is made, and jobs are inspired to be created ALL OVER THE WORLD. Bush got us into a deep hole that will take a long time to get out of.
but where are all of our collective shovels tho.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:50 am
That would be great if we could get together!!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:50 am
I am happy at the outcome of the election, I will celebrate endlessly…However I feel kinda bad because I keep reading people saying that “African-Americans can no longer play the race card”…Like we just ended racism overnight…why cant people separate the issues?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:51 am
@Comeback
“Like Cuzzo said this is ONE man ”
i said that? lol. ure scanner is on the fritz today
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:54 am
@ Cuzzo
“Don’t praise him over God! He’s still just a man… a good man that we’re very proud of, yet still a man.”
you wrote that right??? on SSS..
yall think im crazy now.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:56 am
” I keep reading people saying that “African-Americans can no longer play the race card”…”
Wow, NoMore. That phrase “play the race card” makes it seems like we use discrimation as a benefit, doesn’t it???? Wow.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:58 am
http://www.inauguraltickets.com/
Here is the site for events!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:59 am
I think NoMore makes a good point, racism hasn’t just ended but I think we can expect an apology for a lot of things previously done-the question is how much does that mean coming from one of us?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:02 pm
@No More Heroes
“However I feel kinda bad because I keep reading people saying that “African-Americans can no longer play the race card”…Like we just ended racism overnight…why cant people separate the issues?”
Don’t be a downer. Enjoy this wonderful moment.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Thanks Jolie! I have marked it as a fav!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:03 pm
@Comeback
“you wrote that right??? on SSS..”

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:07 pm
@Humble
“Don’t be a downer.” lol
*moves out of the way of the slap*
@NoMo
yeaaa…no expressing of feelings other than joy today and no thought in the back of mind moments, either. *wags finger*
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Hey Humble werent you the main contributor for this “downer”-type post? But in any case you’re probably right to just enjoy the moment. I should have went out last night instead of just celebrating in the crib.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:12 pm
@NoMo
“Hey Humble werent you the main contributor for this “downer”-type post?”
…and u thought it was safe to continue to say what’s really on ure mind…ah ah ah
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:14 pm
I’m going out tonight! ooh-ooh ooh-ooh
d@mned can’t have any margaritas. rum and diet coke?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I think we should say what’s on our minds it’s important if we’re going to help Barack truly succeed.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:16 pm
yes ma’am rum and diet coke!
gin and tonic!
something straight, maybe?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:16 pm
@No More Heroes
“Hey Humble werent you the main contributor for this “downer”-type post?”
I agree with what you said totally. That is part of the reason why I pushed comeback to discuss this. I was being sarcastic with the “downer” comment. I got my a*s kicked for not just enjoying the moment. So I will just be the happy negro for this moment and put my black leather and AK-47 down.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I think in order to help him succeed we should all have plans to better ourselves. Pick something you have dreamed of doing our accomplishing SOMETHING BIG! ..HUGE! Something that you would never dream could happen and make a conscious effort to go after that DREAM daily. God has dreamed a bigger dream for you than you have dreamed for yourself.
Additionally, volunteer in your community …join outreach programs for youth. Lets take this opportunity to better ourselves and our people as a whole..
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:19 pm
@Jac
“something straight, maybe?”
it’s a date. i can’t be sitting there downing patron. and what am i going to eat? lordy. i dont wanna be a wack date, ording a salad and what not.
gin and tonic doesnt sound flavorful.
lemme fall back cuz i dont even know what we’re doing tonight yet.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:21 pm
@jolie
“volunteer in your community …join outreach programs for youth”
i don’t like my community….don’t like kids either. next! soup kitchen maybe? i’d rather be around old bums than young hooligans
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Humble-There is nothing wrong with being aware of your surroundings. You are conscientious and aware of everything happening and why it happens. There is a reason for all of us to consider. One step forward, albeit a big one, doesn’t mean the journey is complete.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:24 pm
@cuzzo: try like a vanilla vodka and tonic.. or a flavored vodka and tonic.. or you could go with my low cal favorite a gimlet.. which is lime juice and vodka.. its yummo! [ disclaimer: yes, i have many made up words.. gimlet is not one of them. google it and see.. most of my made of words are stolen from my goofy friends or made up by moi!]
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Ok Cuzzo-I’ma shoot you an e-mail so we don’t hi-jack the treehouse (works cite you)
Volunteer helping crack babies or older people…man the stories I bet they have
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:26 pm
@cuzzo: then dont volunteer.. I hate volunteering BUT I do join a lot of steering committees to raise money for those hooligans.. for these programs so volunteers can go.. Your funny.. good personality .. you could raise money!
JOIN AN ORG!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Humble I hear you…its hard to be the happy negro when people truly believe that Barack is trying to “take money from hard working people and give it to lazy Black people on drugs”. Those reader comments are right under the main Free Press article on the election. However, I’ll do my best to ignore such ignorance.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:31 pm
@No More Heroes

I saw that. I work with these type of people to. That is why I brought this up. But I guess everyone else lives their life oblivious to this. I feel that we need to bring this mentality to light. The U.S. needs a truth and reconcile hearing so we can heal and get past race. Moments like this make me think of the civil rights movement vs. black power movement.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:32 pm
“So I will just be the happy negro for this moment and put my black leather and AK-47 down”
Lord Humble.
Just because I didn’t understand what you were saying, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t say it. I just am not that deep today. I don’t get it. I may get it tomorrow.
I understand the struggle. You as a black man have a struggle, just like me as a black woman struggles. We have to hold you guys up, yet keep our mouths shut in order not to seem argumentative and angry, all while staying true to ourselves… I’m sure Michelle wants to WILE’ the F out when she hears people talking about her man, but people tend to frown upon that. LOL.
Maybe I need to come again and read what you’re trying to say after I’ve taken a nap.
Be back in a bit.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:34 pm
@jolie
gimlet it is!
i’ve raised money before…i guess i could do that. i just don’t like having to commit to stuff…don’t wanna disappoint folks ya know.
@NoMo
“take money from hard working people and give it to lazy Black people on drugs”.
das funny.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Disclaimer… sorry i know i said i wouldn’t comment on this again..
@ Jolie…. I agree we do need to start bettering ouselves…
I just don’t want people to think that it ends here because we have our 1st Black President…. I’m just trying to really grasp how Barack was able to unite all of these people. Just so another black man can do it again regardless of whether we’re in rough economical times or had a bad previous President. But along with telling the younger black kids they can be anything that they want to be… We need to also help them with getting there….
So like Nicki said earlier Barack is a great man!!! But other than make sure you achieve greatness what should I tell my lil 9 year old cousin who now wants to be President of the United States. What is our role in making sure that we have other future black presidents??…. Teacia said earlier the beauty about his win is that it is very possible that we won’t have to do a thing in regards to other black presidents. But I don’t know about that but yet it is a possibility.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 12:48 pm
See I had a white man tell me something like that last week at work. I was mad enough to hurt someone for real. He told me that he was afraid of walking the streets because of ignorant black people. He also included that Barack was gonna take his 401k and give it to the very people he fears…I really couldn’t believe it. I wanted to fight.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1:11 pm
story fo yo arsses sent to me from a friend smdh:
And with that the question we have all jokingly pondered is how will black people act once we knew Obama would be elected. Undoubtedly someone would do something ignorant. But how ignorant. Hopefully not Rick James ignant. Well, its not even lunch, and I think I have witnessed the first bit of ignance. Here is how it happened:
Brotha man strolls into the office at 9:15 wearing a blue jean short set with a glittery Obama hat on. (He’s from Alabama if that explains anything) Immediately I’m thinking this is a law office. We wear suits here. And we’re supposed to here at 8. He walks past my desk and says “what up black!…It’s a new world baby….It’s a new world baby!!” His crunkness is a bit overwhelming but hey who isn’t excited so I indulged him. Then he sees Julie, the weird but kinda cute for a 40 year old white woman, and calls her over to him. He lowers his voice to the tone that those who don’t know how to whisper make when they think they are in fact whispering and says “We changed the world. Obama won by a landslide.I told you we’d do it. We can do anything now. We can even make those little Obamas I was talking about.” She apparently realized how loud he was. So she stopped him and whispered something back that I couldn’t hear and then sauntered away. Brotha man turns to me and says “Stay black young blood. I’m going to celebrate.” And then leaves. 5 minutes later Julie walks out like she was a woman that knows what she wants out of life. Yes we can.
BTW this fool is married. His 9 yr old daughter was running around the office just last week.
PS: They didnt want to give us 40 acres and a mule, so we’ll take 50 states and a white house.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1:21 pm
@comback: no i did not cuss you out. I lub you long time!
additionally, my first comment was written in a bed at 7am after getting no sleep and still drunk … so the harshness of my words to humble and the lot was no intentional but the message is still the same.
I lub you long time too humble…. and by tomorrow I will be all analytical too.
Peace .. love and souuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1:24 pm
@ Jolie…
I’m SMDH right along with you…..
But I’m happy I finally got to celebrate with somebody like me on the job….He was the janitor but he still had that glisten in his eye….
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1:24 pm

I don’t think anyone has overlooked the fact that although this particular battle was won, that the war is not over until it’s over.
It’s going to take each and everyone of us to make things better, but this particular battle is over and is worth taking the time to celebrate because its been a LONG TIME coming.
This was needed to rejuvenate not just the elders but youngsters because we all have a job to do. No more time for excuses.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:10 pm
@holly: Big Poppa told her to BLOW HIM .. she misinterpreted …. hahahahah lmao!

@jolie: I think her husband seems like the sweetest man and all, but acts disinterested most of the time. Like a tired parent…. what’s up with that?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:37 pm
@Holly: LMAO. I think she talks that way because she’s not used to those porcelein veneers. LOL.
That girl has some great teeth!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:38 pm
LOL! I still hate it!! Damn!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:39 pm
et al: sorry for the 3 times same comment..damn send button
@nicki: i think she has a great husband and I agree he seems disinterested.. Maybe he is BIG POPPA dun dun DUN!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:41 pm
@Holly: LMAO. It seems like she whines a lot. she just sucks
The only couple I can give full likeable credit to is Lisa and her NFL spouse.
@jolie: Oooh! Oooh! Sounds like a twist.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:42 pm
@Holly
“Open yo DAMN mouth!”
if she opens her mouth too wide her brain will fall out.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:44 pm
If she opens her mouth too much we might see how she got her NBA husband… cause it sure wasn’t on personality.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:45 pm
i like nene some of the time.
ayo! bad girls club is starting back up. *giddy clap* i love/hated tanisha.
and there will be a 4th season of RHW-OC.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:47 pm
@nicki: “If she opens her mouth too much we might see how she got her NBA husband… cause it sure wasn’t on personality.”
she is probably someones cousin or um sister who is in the league OR she could be the one that snagged him in undergrad… CAUSE HE DEFINITELY FOUND HER BEFORE THE LEAGUE .. {disclaimer: i know i’m not right.. i know it.. i know it}
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I like Nene most of the time too… although she did suck for talkin about her “friend” or making fun of her in front of everybody else because someone was BOUND to go back and run it.
I love/hated Tanisha too.. . “pop off. Pop off son.” [said in my best Brooklynite voice]
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:48 pm
yall think there is a twist in Lisa’s relationship and its to chummy chummy/ to good to be true?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:49 pm

Damnit Jolie. Is this the trick????? Dang. I’m too late… unless I want to go get a young’n. Hell, Kim Kardashian did it.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:51 pm
@Mik: maybe they do threesomes… she seems like she’d be down for it.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:53 pm
@Nicki
pop off…u mad rude, yo. and her theme song:
i ain’t get no sleep cuz of yawl *clang*
yawl not gone get no sleep cuz of me *clang clang*
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:53 pm
@nicki: yes girl. thats the trick. I know for sure that a lot of nba players find their wives through their agents.. might be relatives etc of their agents or relatives of team members etc.. they feel like they are more protected that way that the person may be less golddiggerish when in reality the relative is passing them off to the player to get said relative out of their pocket… I know you gotta have a cousin of a cousin that plays pro ball for someone? (jk.. on the last part)
Back to the topic real quick.. I found a way for you guys to get free tickets to inaugural events here:

@mik: Yeah, whatever she is… I like them both and they have a good relationship. hell, that’s what I want one day [looks into the distance blissfully.] But if it IS threesomes, not.gonna.be.able.to.do. it.
@Jolie: Girl, I wish I had a hook up. I would have been HOOKED UP. NFL of course… know how I am about those bodies. I noticed how she shows him affection when he’s buying her something or when “he didn’t get made when she kept going over the budget.” WOW.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:57 pm
@Nicki
“Hell, Kim Kardashian did it.”
kim k. is also a rich socialite…
did anyone partake in any freebies yesterday?
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:58 pm
@cuzzo: Now I was feelin her when she walked around the house doing that…. those broads were disgusting.. staying up all night, loud, and foolish acting.
I didn’t like her in the beginning when she was going around using her weight and loudness to terrorize people though.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 3:00 pm
“kim k. is also a rich socialite…”
DAMMIT again. LOL
For the record, I’ve never had to fight a chick but put me in a dead end street with Jennavecia and I will take out 28 years of aggression on her nasty arse.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 3:02 pm
@Nicki
re:Jennavecia

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 3:04 pm
@Nicki

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Hey Nicki,
DeShawn dated her husband in college. This show is my guilty pleasure. When Kim spelled CAT “K-A-T” I was done. You know Dallas Austin is just doing this to be on TV. Big Poppa prorbaly told him to entertain her until she can hear herself sing then she will stop trying to be a singer.
I think Lisa keeps her mouth shut because Keith got custody of her boys and she isn’t trying to mess with that situation.
Please read Betheny’s blog(she was on the New York Housewives) on BRAVO about Atlanta. It is hilarious.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 7:44 pm
