Hummy mentioned in the comment section the day before yesterday that he’s been reading song lyrics since he was toddler (sarcasm). I can’t claim that. Seriously, only in the last several years have I been extremely interested in song lyrics. I always preach Comebackers that words are powerful. They’re powerful spoken, written and thought.
So I got to thinking about Gratitude Friday in a different way today. It’s inspired by Mary Mary’s “Get Up”. I don’t like living my life post-mortem. The past is done. Can’t nobody get yesterday back. But I can do today a little differently. So I want us to list some things that we will “get up” to do.
Power is in the tongue, your thoughts, and the keyboard
I’ll start: ***putting my thinking cap on…this is kinda difficult..I give us some hard homework LOL***
1. I endeavor to keep attracting really positive and upbeat people to both my online and offline life.
2. As Mik alluded to the fact on her financial blog (what is going on wit dat Mik?) that tithing is tied to mental, physical and financial prosperity. I’m cool with tithing… money wise. Not as great recently with the tithing of my time. So as we approach the holidays (and thereafter), I won’t just do what I can from my pocketbook’s perspective, I’m resolving to roll up my sleeves as well and budget more time where I am needed to causes I really believe in.
2a. I emailed Mik a couple of days ago about some real estate stuff in Detroit. Back in 2001 (right after 9/11) I bought a house (structurally sound) in b’more for a a couple thousand dollars (incl. closing fees). In 2005 I sold for roughly 20 times what i paid for it. Stupid idea to sell (i was thinking real “negrodian like” lol). But I want to pick up more over the next several months to hold long term. I’ll also be visiting the area in the next month or so. I’d like Mikki aka Anitra to do some guest blogging on the real estate market in Detroit, including some of the local trends. Anything that I learn I want my Comebackers to learn too. And knowledge is power.
3. This blog is about to go through a major re-design. I will also be incorporating lots of video and fusing all the stuff I love about making Comebacks. One of its major focus will be the home. I’m a huge believer that most things tied to our well-being is also tied to our sanctuary (where we live, sleep, love etc.) I endeavor to stop dilly dallying around the totem pole and get busy.
4. Just be more happy. I already feel like Im in my zone most days. Even though I’m not getting much sleep. (i can sleep when I die lol…my mother HATES when I say that btw lol). Anyway, I resolve to just live a more joyous life. Taking special note in all the “little things” that make me happy. Flowers, the rain, even random strangers at Starbucks. I also resolve to be a little more selective in my company. I realize that some real life people mean me no harm, but they aren;t necessarily all for my good either. I resolve to know them out the gate. Get the lesson. Adapt and keep it moving.
4a. And yes, Ain’t nothin like a good man. I’ve been noticing the better I have been striving to become, the better they show up as. I’m starting to really know that for sure. I’m far from perfect but I just want to keep on trying to be better so that better relationships and men keep showing up. (note: one thing I won’t be doing anymore is blogging about my dates. Maybe I’ll start speaking of them metaphorically) lol. Maybe not. lol.
I’ll add as I think of more in the morning.

First, I’m in on Secret Santa.
Second, this has been an interesting and challenging week for so many. I feel it to be only befitting to ask that everyone pray for Nicki’s mother and her speedy recovery.
About midnight, I received a phone call saying that a great uncle of mine had passed away. I think it is well with my soul simply because he could no longer do for himself or be myself and I don’t think he wanted to be that way.
Two days ago I received not so positive news, but I am keeping positive thoughts and working hard to turn it all around.
I am claiming having a new job by January 15.
I had problems with the person I love the most today, that’s okay…the prayer was already written.
I am claiming positivity and good blessings for everyone on this blog.
Write your visions down so that all may see it. Tarry for it and it’s coming will not be delayed (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
I even have to get me a list for Fit Club. Honestly the stress of the past ten days have put ten pounds on me. It’s not good and I know it.
Lastly, I want to share something I heard in church last Sunday:

Lets see:
Well I heard from a friend and then read on theybf that Michelle O works out for 90 minutes/3 days a week at 4:30 am and Barack O. 45min/6days a week and her rather miss sleep then his workout and this has solidified the fact that I will be on task starting tomorrow and in the gym at least 3 days a week for 90 minutes to start.. so that means Saturday, Sunday (after church) and Monday. [ hold me to that Comeback]
So:
1. I will workout on a consistent basis with a routine
2. I will lose the dreaded pounds I have put on no later than January 20th. I will fit back into the cords I tried on this morning by mid december
3. I will focus on me and not others
4. I will remember my favorite quote from Eat, Pray, Love: “happiness is the consequence of personal effort. you fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it. ”
I will participate relentlessly in the manifestations of my own blessings. And once I have achieved a state of happiness, I will never become lax about maintaining it, I will make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it”

Man you rock for the shout outs comeback thanks girl! I am going to start working on cranking out some post about the real estate market here this week.
I am glad yall are talking about the fit club, I am not in it but I could use a bit of getting healthy, I actually was down at the workout room this morning for about 5 minutes after I realized the only machine I knew how to work was the tread mill, and my man already said stay off it because its bad for your knees. So hopefully tomorrow he can show me how to work the equipment so I can get started.
Nicki you are most definitely in our prayers, Last week Nicki was reminding me how important it was to spend time with moms because some folks don’t have them and the trip I went on was a funeral for a mother, Nicki was the one that encouraged me to go with my mom on the trip and I heart you for that so stay strong.
I am grateful for yall as always, and all the positively going on in my life, as comeback said its all in how you speak and I really really try to only speak positive things even when I worry.

This has been a tough week for me both in school and in my day to day. The devil has been testing my faith and ability to stay strong in the face of adversity…but what he fails to realize is that I come from a praying house and I know without a shadow of a doubt that what God has for me, it is for me.
Last night was probably the most emotional of them all…but after a good cry and a long hot bath I got through it and today is a new day.
I am grateful for the new financial opportunities that have come my way.
I am grateful for the what may be the relationship I’ve been praying for.
I am grateful for my daughter…lawd knows she’s been cutting a fool lately, but I pray that this next week that she spends with her father will bring her back on an even keel.
I am asking for strength this weekend in Orlando with the Fireman. My body has a way of controlling my mind, I praying for the guidance to flip the script, and allow my mind to control my body.

1. I am about to join the fit club. I’ve been monitoring what I eat but I know I need to start working out along with it if i want to see results. So Comeback be looking out for my pic…;)
2. I am going to look for the positives in all situations….This was something I realized I need to work on in order for me survive my current storm.
3. I am going to attempt to get out of the house more.
These are some of the few that I can think of right now…..
But looking back on this week I am grateful for:
1. My daddy celebrating his bday
2.Not having to pay anything when I went to the dentist. This is the second time this has happened so I don’t know what they doing. Ain’t nothing changed with my insurance…

Good Morning Ladies!! This week has been full of realizations for me with some sprinkles of stress. I am happy that today is Friday and that I can now work on having a glorious holiday week!
I have decided to leave my ex in NC alone for good. I have put him before me a lot especially emotionally and financially. I can no longer fight his battles, nor should I take them on. I am currently working on a “Dear John” letter for delivery next week.
I have decided to leave the prospect guy who leaves in NC alone. He isn’t do it anymore and I am selling myself short not to mention making myself unavailable for the person who God is gonna send my way! I am working on his “Dear John” text
I am gearing up for school. Start in January to finish up this second degree. I took the GMAT got a 670 now I am applying to Business School programs.
I am taking a more serious approach to my job and career. For a minute I slacked off due to low morale resulting from a huge lay off we had earlier this year. But hey I have to snap out of it stop mourning and get my shat together to make myself marketable.
I am getting my spiritual house in order! I am determined to find me a church home in Atlanta. Most of you guys don’t know, but I am a PK- Preachers Kid (but not the stereotypical), so I am use to going and being involved in church. I feel once this is together everything else will fall into place.
Lastly, I am trying to lose 15-20 pounds that I gained post college and I really need to get involved. I need some help and motivation ladies!
Lastly, I had a bad wreck last Thursday and I am thanking God that I wasnt seriously hurt nor my passengers! Now I am praying that they don’t turn around and sue me. Everybody is saying you will see who your true friends are. Hopefully they won’t and we will live happily ever after

I think you should go with it Holly for the text. But for your ex you can do the real letter. Sometimes us women need to write to get it all out even if they really don’t understand the 19 page letter, it gives us closure to write everything thats on our mind when it comes to a break up. its like therapy. I did the same thing and it helps as long as you don’t keep writing the same letter to the same person over and over lol.

lol 80’s I hear you girl, those dear john letters are nothing to be messed with. I mean it might not do anything for the person reading it you would hope so but sometimes its just for you to clear your brain and start fresh.
I have only written one dear john letter that didn’t highlight the good in the relationship but every other time, I made a point to highlight what I liked about the person and how he inspired me to find someone right for me, I try to stay away from the bashing and bad mouthing simply because I don’t wanna harp on it and not be able to move on. I feel like deep down the person already knows where they went wrong, so I don’t need to remind them, plus a lotta times just because they failed with you doesn’t always mean they will with someone one else ya know….

Ladies I can’t shave or trim…and waxing just hurts too damn much.
I have a skin condition and if I shave under my arms or in my ladie love area bad things could happen to my skin…boils, abcesses…just painful all around.
Alot of people have it and never talk about it because it’s embarassing…it doesn’t bother me b/c I’ve been dealing with it for 7 years now, they’ve just found a “cure.” I have an appt with my derm after the holidays to start the treatment.

Hi All in the treehouse.
My week has been filled with ups and downs so thank God it’s Friday. I’ve had two productive days so I rejoice in that. This weekend I’ll be going to a women’s conference.

hi ladies and gents. sorry i havent been here much this week. work has been crazy and there are some other issues going on.
yes i want to participate in secret santa.
if anyone talks to Nicki soon let her know that her and her family are in my thoughts and if i get up the nerve to pray for the first time in years then they will be in my prayers (more on that later) and i have asked my “praying friends” to keep her in theirs.
the rest of you are in my thoughts too and i hope that we all have wonderful weekends and weeks next year b/c it sounds like a lot of us have had ish to deal with this week.
Jac i am sorry for your loss and i know what it’s like to be at peace w/ it b/c you know its that persons time.

Comeback I didn’t take it that way…people won’t know unless I tell them. I can say this, alot of black women(and men) get abscesses in their groin area and never speak of it. I have a couple of friends who it would happen to and it wasn’t until I said something that they were yeah it happened to me too.
It comes from an ingrown hair, it gets infected and up pops the abscess. The difference with me is that I have a sweat gland disorder in addition to the possible ingrown hairs when shaving, making my situation a little trickier.
80’s I hope it works too, because when I do get them, they hurt like nothing you’ve ever felt before.
Well that’s all for my medical lesson for today…so you see a little burn is a lot easier to deal with than the possible alternative.

CHILE where have you been Wicked is a GIRL POWER PLAY that started on broadway..i think taye diggs wife played the lead. It turns the whole “wicked witch” thing on its head so to speak. I don;t want to give it all away. but go see it. Maybe it started in Chi..but i thought it was on broadway first. I saw it when it came to a local Baltimore theatre.

Good Afternoon Beautiful people,
First of all I want to thank each and every one of you for thinking of me and my fam right now.
I’m at the hospital now…. She’s still at the CCU but will be moving shortly. She’s much better today. Although they haven’t started the treatment for the clot yet, she’s completed her blood transfusions. She got up and watched TV and even joked with me that she had my meal for lunch (I cook tilapia and rice pilaf).
Wrong… granny just came in and said she’s getting more blood… but mom is def better.
That stroke only gave her a time to rest.

Wicked is an off Broadway play in Chicago. (or is it only off broadway if it’s in New York?) It’s about the untalked about witches from the Wizard of Oz. I haven’t seen it yet, but have only heard good things about it. Also, I heard there are supposed to be a fair number of Black actors/actresses in the show.
Dude is not my significant other, we just started dating recently and I mentioned that I’m probably going to travel over the holiday and he invited himself along. He’s a gentleman, and we’ve never kissed or held hands, so it would be silly of him to expect anything super intimate on the trip. And even if he expects something, I’m good about keeping the goodies in the jar. We’ve only been on 3 dates so far, and I guess I see this as a better chance for us to get to know each other, or an extended date. But I don’t want to be naive.

@ Nicki ……But it’s great that you called her when you did and was able to recognize that something wasn’t right…… I had recieved an email a while back talking about signs of a stroke and slurred speech was one of the factors mentioned I believe…. I forwarded that email to everyone I knew just so we would be informed……But you are truly blessed that she has no side effects from the ministroke.

wow thats why you gotta still push these doctors..some of them are so lazy…to me sometimes you know whats going on with your body better than a doctor. But Yeah mik you should do that blog post. Its amazing how most of us have gone through life changing issues with our mama’s, wow. And it all really is a blessing to me in different ways.

I’d see people going to the matinee in the summer in the cutest flirty summer dresses, while the men would be in a button up shirt and slacks. At night it’s a bit dressier. It’s a great opportunity to wear something you bought that you never get to wear because you have no place to wear it to. There’s no parking anywhere near the theater, so if you wear heels, make sure they’re extra comfy.

ok thanks fly, we will have to decide I would say Friday at 8pm but we would just be getting into town and might not have time to change, the Saturday and Sunday show is at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday we need to be leaving. I know we gotta hit the club Saturday night, so maybe we can hit the play (2hours) then the club after words and then sleep and have lunch before its time to come home.
speaking of clubs do you know any good ones we can get vip at, or just some nice ones in general with a young but mature crowd?? i know i wanna hit the funk budda lounge and its this other one i always hear about with 3 levels.
we gonna hit the cheesecake factory of course lol, its both our first time going there for actual recreation so we wanna have fun.

anitra, unfortunately I know nothing about clubs in chicago. I kinda lived there for a year, but I only went out like 4 times during that year. I work there but I commute from Mich., so I was only there to work. I went to the Funky Buddah, it was cool, but the nite I’d recommend is definitely Sunday, and I know you’re leaving sunday afternoon. I don’t have any clubs to recommend, I’m still looking for recommendations myself.
